Whispers of Sunken Forest
DATE & TIME
Sunday, September 25, 12-5pm
LOCATION
14th Street and Tenth Avenue under the High Line (southside)
This sound installation and exhibited materials open up a portal to the Sunken Forest on 14th Street in Manhattan. Sunken Forest, located on Fire Island in New York, is one of only two old-growth maritime American Holly forests in the world. The centuries-old unique ecosystem is disappearing due to climate change and coastal erosion. We hope to communicate the urgency of climate change through the forest’s voice from our immediate environment. *The work is part of a larger project titled Fragile Landscapes by Yeseul Song.
Yeseul Song is a NYC-based South Korean artist who uses technology and interaction as art media. She’s an Assistant Arts Professor at NYU ITP/IMA. Jesse Simpson is a Brooklyn-based designer/musician/programmer who uses custom electronics and software to create sound design and compositional tools.
