Through a series of live installations during the festival, onlookers will observe and perhaps participate collaboratively with the artist to create mosaics in sidewalk cracks. Weather-proof mosaic tiles in designed patterns will be installed in sidewalk cracks using hydraulic cement made to withstand all weather conditions and pedestrian traffic. Over three days community members will observe and collaboratively participate with the artist to preserve community place, identity, and culture by occupying public spaces with beautiful mosaics.

A first generation daughter of refugees classically trained in Ravenna, Italy. and holding an MFA, Bint-Kadi has been designing and fabricating public art mosaics since 1993. She is committed to the idea of public art as an index or marker of lived experience when working collaboratively with community members. Bint-Kadi has created this project in cities across the United States and most recently in Detroit, MI.
